This is a brief video that shows the extent of the Demolition that can be required when doing a complete kitchen remodel. Obvously, if you desire to only change out the cabinetry or update the counter-tops or flooring, much less demolition is required, thus the overall cost is significantly less. However, in this instance, we literally removed walls that were obstructing the "openness" that the client desired, added an island area that required gas and electric to be run to it, changed the location of the sink area, are adding a sliding glass door where a large window was before, moved the exterior garage door as well as the interior door into the garage, removed the baseboard radiant heat and added in-floor hydronic radiant heat, completely rearranged the cabinetry lay-out and rewired the kitchen area. This is what would be referred to as a "gut and redo". One of the things that worked to our benefit is that the kitchen slab was already depressed two and one-quarter inches and this depressed area led into what was a sunken seating area, thus it made the installation of the in-floor hydronic radiant heating much easier and less costly than it would have been otherwise. In fact, the main challange with this was determining the existing configuration of the hot water lines from the boiler that fed the existing baseboard heaters. Enjoy!
